Delete your WildPins account

Two ways to delete your account

Option 1 — From inside the app (fastest)

1. Open WildPins on your device.
2. Tap the Settings tab (bottom right).
3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
4. Confirm. Your account and all associated data are deleted immediately.

Option 2 — Request deletion by email

If you can't access the app, email us and we'll process your deletion within 30 days:

Include the email address you used to register so we can verify ownership before deletion.

What gets deleted

When you delete your WildPins account, the following data is permanently removed from our servers:

• Your account credentials (email, password hash, user ID)
• Your profile (name, avatar, bio, location preferences)
• Every wildlife identification you've made (photos, audio, AI results, GPS coordinates, captions)
• Every pin you've placed on the map (location, name, category)
• All group memberships you own; group messages you've sent are removed from those groups
• Your followers / following graph
• Your likes, reports filed by you, and blocks you've created
• Your push notification tokens and saved app preferences
• Any photos or audio recordings stored in our database

What is retained

For legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons, the following may be retained for a limited time after deletion:

• Anonymized usage analytics (no personal identifiers) — kept indefinitely for product improvement.
• Aggregated wildlife sighting data with personal identifiers stripped — your sightings may live on as anonymous "a sighting was reported here on X date" data points to benefit the naturalist community.
• Moderation logs — if your account was the subject of valid abuse reports, we keep an anonymized record (no personal identifiers) for up to 12 months to prevent re-registration abuse.
• Server backups — automated backups roll off our storage within 30 days. Your data is fully gone after that window.

Timeline

• In-app deletion: Immediate. Your account and primary data are removed from active databases the moment you tap Confirm.
• Email deletion request: We process all requests within 30 days, usually within 7 days.
• Backups purge: Up to 30 days after deletion for our automated backup snapshots to roll off.
